Abstract

This study aims to determine the perceptions of banking and insurance professionals in Turkey regarding climate risks, their level of institutional preparedness, strategic adaptation capacity, and attitudes towards green finance approaches. Conducted using a descriptive survey model based on a quantitative research approach, the data for the study were collected from 388 participants from different institutions and regions across Turkey using the "Climate Risks and Green Finance Adaptation Scale" (CR-GFAS), developed by the researcher. Analyses performed with SPSS and AMOS programs confirmed the five-dimensional structure of the scale using Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analyses. Furthermore, Cronbach's Alpha, composite reliability, and mean variance explanation values demonstrated high levels of internal consistency and convergent validity. The Fornell–Larcker criterion and HTMT ratios supported discriminant validity, while test-retest correlations supported the scale's long-term stability. The findings demonstrate that the IR-YFUÖ is a valid and reliable tool for measuring climate risks and green finance compliance within the financial sector in Turkey. Participants showed a high level of awareness regarding climate risks; however, improvements are needed at the strategic compliance and corporate implementation levels. Furthermore, while significant differences were found in some dimensions based on gender, age, education level, sector, and job position, no significant difference was found based on years of professional experience. The results indicate that financial institutions need to take policy-level steps to support sustainability-focused transformations.
