Digitalization and Financial Development as Drivers of Material Footprint: Evidence from Developing Countries

Abstract

Bu çalışma, STIRPAT modeli çerçevesinde 2000-2023 döneminde 27 gelişmekte olan ülkede dijitalleşme ve finansal gelişmenin kişi başına malzeme ayak izi üzerindeki etkilerini ampirik olarak incelemektedir. Örneklem, Dünya Bankası sınıflandırmasına göre gelişmekte olan ekonomiler olarak tanımlanan ve analiz dönemi boyunca eksiksiz veriye sahip ülkelerden oluşmaktadır. Küreselleşen ekonomilerde çevresel baskının daha kapsamlı bir göstergesi olması nedeniyle, karbon emisyonları yerine tedarik zincirleri boyunca toplam kaynak kullanımını yansıtan tüketim temelli bir gösterge olan malzeme ayak izi bağımlı değişken olarak kullanılmıştır. Uzun dönem katsayıları, yatay kesit bağımlılığı ve eğim heterojenliğini dikkate alan Dinamik Ortak Korelasyonlu Etkiler Ortalama Grubu (DCCE-MG) tahmincisi ile elde edilmiştir. Koşullu medyan tahminleri bootstrap MM-QR yöntemiyle elde edilmiştir. Daraltılmış modele dayanan ek analizler ayrıca sunulmuştur. Kontrol değişkeni olarak kullanılan ticaret açıklığı ile ticaret dengesi, her iki tahmincide de negatif ve istatistiksel olarak anlamlıdır. Buna karşılık kişi başına gelir, enerji yoğunluğu, kentleşme ve finansal derinlik yalnızca MM-QR tahminlerinde pozitif ve anlamlıdır. Negatif MM-QR katsayısı, dijitalleşmenin koşullu medyanda daha düşük bir malzeme ayak iziyle ilişkili olduğunu göstermekte ve dijital altyapı gelişiminin gelişmekte olan ekonomilerde kaynak verimliliğini destekleyebileceğine işaret etmektedir. Sonuçlar, gelişmekte olan ülkelerde çevresel baskı belirleyicilerinin heterojen bir yapıya sahip olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Buna göre dijital dönüşüm, kurumsal kapasite ve enerji dönüşümüne ilişkin politika önceliklerinin ülke koşullarına göre belirlenmesi gerekmektedir.
