CEO Narsisizmi ve Firma Performansı Arasındaki ilişkide Finansal Esnek Kaynakların ve Yönetim Kurulu Bağımsızlığının Rolü Üzerine Bir Literatür İncelemesi

Bu çalışma, CEO narsisizmi ile firma performansı arasındaki ilişkiye dair mevcut literatürü inceleyerek, finansal esnek kaynakların ve yönetim kurulu bağımsızlığının bu ilişkideki rolünü açıklamayı amaçlamaktadır. Literatür taraması kapsamına -CEO narsisizm ile ilgili ilk ampirik araştırmaların 2007 yılında başlamış olması nedeniyle- 2007 – 2025 yılları arasında ağırlıklı olarak Web of Science ve Scopus’ta yayınlanmış 18 ampirik çalışma dahil edilmektedir. İnceleme neticesinde CEO narsisizmin firma performansına etkisiyle ilgili mevcut literatürdeki çalışmaların tutarsız sonuçlar raporladığı tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmacılar narsist CEO’ların inovasyon ya da aşırı yatırım kararlarıyla firma performansını arttırdığı; diğer yandan CEO narsisizmin finansal manipülasyon, aşırı risk alma ya da kaynakları kişisel imaj için tüketme gibi davranışları nedeniyle firma performansını olumsuz etkiledikleri belirlenmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra, araştırmaların çoğunun gelişmiş ülkelerden örneklemler kullanılarak yürütüldüğü, gelişmekte olan ülkelere dair çalışmaların sınırlı olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca literatür taraması kapsamında finansal esnek kaynakların ve yönetim kurulu bağımsızlığının sınırlı sayıda araştırmaya konu edindiği tespit edilmiştir. Finansal esnek kaynaklar, narsist CEO’ların davranışlarını etkilemede kritik bir önem taşımaktadır. Yönetim kurulu bağımsızlığının ise narsisizm seviyesi yüksek CEO’ları sınırlandırıp sınırlandırmadığı bakımından önemlidir. Araştırmanın temel katkısı, CEO narsisizm ve firma performansıyla ilgili mevcut literatürdeki araştırma boşluklarına dikkat çekerek, CEO narsisizmin firma performansına etkisine dair bir araştırma gündeminin oluşturulmasını sağlamaktır.
