Along with population growth and industrialization, the change in people's consumption habits causes scarcity in resources, and the wastes that occur as a result of consumption also cause more pollution of the environment. The increase in wastes that threatens the environment has become a serious problem not only for the people living in that region, but also for everyone, as can be seen from the climate crises that have occurred. This problem brought along the questions of “how to dispose of” and “how to recycle” waste. With the serious handling of the issue in national and international media, their countries and regions have led to policies and regulations in the field of waste management.
The good management of the entire process from waste collection to disposal and recycling processes by local governments responsible for waste will be reflected in the micro-scale waste management performance. However, this situation makes the current situation even more important as it will be reflected in the country's performance on a macro scale. In this research, the waste management performances of 81 provinces in Turkey were examined with the MAIRCA method, which is one of the new multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods. Variables that are important indicators in waste management such as GDP per capita, municipal total waste rate, amount of recycled waste, amount of waste disposed are discussed in the study. In the light of the findings obtained as a result of the study, the waste management performance values of the provinces were determined and the performance rankings of the provinces were made according to these values.
