Abstract


The global changes on worldwide bring with the differentiation of tourist profile and thereby their choice of touristic product. Some kind of alternative tourism have been becoming to fulfill the needs of modern and postmodern tourist. Event tourism as kind of an alternative tourism, gaining an attraction to destination, comprises an economic, social, cultural, political and touristic impacts on destination. The aim of this presented study is to determine a tourist’s motives for event participation from a government local management perspective. For this purpose, a research was carried out in the province of İzmir where by local government workers relating to an organised event attended by tourists and the locals. In this research, a survey was used and 105 local government event organisor clerks answered the questionnaire. In a conclusion, the factor analysis was used to cluster the items. “Socialization”, “family togetherness, and new experiences”, “escapism” and “event excitement” were the main findings of the survey.
