A RESEARCH ON EFFICIENCY MEASUREMENT BY DATA ENVELOPMENT METHOD IN INSURANCE COMPANIES IN TURKEY

Abstract

When possible risks in the future were taken into account, the system of insurance was established since people wanted to secure their goods and their lives in both bodily and spiritual ways. This is why the insurance sector plays an important role in the services sector. Insurance companies use performance evaluation criteria to measure the level of achievements within their objectives in their activities. One of these is the measure of effectiveness. Companies can make an assessment about their level of achievements with respect to their objectives, ie the measurement of outputs. In this study, activites of the seven companies operating in the XSGRT index on the exchange between 2014-2016 were aimed to be measured based on their balance sheets and income tables. In addition, the results obtained are interpreted and necessary suggestions have been made for these companies to increase their activities.
