In this research, the issue of sustainable tourism, which has been adopted as a result of the sustainable development philosophy, has been examined in detail from a sustainability perspective, both globally and in Turkey. In this study, an exploratory research method was used. In this context, an effort has been made to shed a light on sustainability and sustainable tourism, which is thought to be in the dark, globally and in Turkey. In many commercial or non-commercial human activities, the word sustainability is used far from its real meaning, in the sense of continuing the mentioned activities in the long term. Due to this etymological problem, the concept of sustainability has not yet been fully understood in our country and it has been far from contributing to the future of the globe as a country. Being late in realizing the danger of internalizing the issue and unconsciously consuming global resources increases the probability of encountering a problem that is difficult to reverse. It has been observed that models such as sustainable tourism and ecotourism that have been emptied and decontextualized do not contribute to sustainability in this context. It is clear that there is a need for a tourism industry that can bring a safe minimum standard approach to development, that minimizes the risk of impeding welfare opportunities that will be passed on to future generations through irreversible changes. However, due to the fact that the effects of development tend to be cumulative, it is considered that it would be beneficial to predict the long-term final effects of the changes made in the environment through tourism.
