Abstract

Lean thinking, which aims to get rid of unnecessary work and continuous improvement, has become a standard in the production sector after successful applications, and in the following years it has started to be applied in areas such as health, service and public services. In the age of technology, information and communication technologies are rapidly influencing people and companies. As a result, Information Technology (IT) has become very important for companies and IT departments of companies in different sectors. Recently, there have been studies on the application of lean thinking principles and methods for IT management. Since the investments, processes and goals in the IT sector are more abstract and difficult to measure compared to manufacturing and other sectors, there are difficulties in applying lean thinking in this sector. Lean IT, which is defined as the application of lean thinking principles in the field of IT, has started to be implemented by companies in the business world and successful results have been achieved. It is stated by researchers that the importance of lean IT applications will increase even more in the rapidly growing IT market, especially in the software sector. In this study, a literature review on the concept of lean IT and sample applications are included for better understanding by the business world and researchers.
