Abstract

With the acceleration of globalization, ensuring the restoration of the disrupted ecological balance and achieving a healthier environment have become increasingly important through sustainability initiatives. The rapid pace dictated by capitalism, driven by production and consumption, pressures countries to remain competitive while also necessitating measures to reduce adverse effects on the environment.

In this context, identifying the criteria that brands belonging to companies must fulfill in the field of sustainable fashion becomes vital for enhancing their performance. Based on these reasons, this study analyzes the concept of sustainability, particularly within the circular economy, in the textile and ready-to-wear industries, evaluating the fundamental determinants and performance indicators both globally and in Turkey. The analysis leverages the BOF index to examine the sustainability reports of leading companies in Turkey's sector.

The research employs a descriptive method, gathering data through literature review. The findings reveal that companies in the textile, ready-to-wear, and fashion sectors demonstrate transparent management practices concerning sustainability, taking numerous positive steps in managing emissions, waste, and water. However, achieving the goal of reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 necessitates a more extensive adoption of circular economy practices for greener transformations.
