Abstract

Personal characteristics differentiate individuals from one another, and these vary according to temperament, character, habits, and abilities. In managerial success, personal characteristics can be effectual and they can also be determinant. Just as these characteristics have an impact on private life, they also affect work life and hence job success as well. Marketing orientation is one aspect that is impacted by the varying personal characteristics of managers. This study examines the relationship between the personal characteristics of managers and marketing orientation, and focuses on the question of whether or not the managers in the study sample were market oriented as a consequence of their personal characteristics. Designed as an empirical study, it was carried out via a survey which sought to determine perceptions concerning personal characteristics and marketing orientation. The results of the study indicated that there was a positive relationship between personal characteristics and marketing orientation, and that the personal characteristics of managers had an impact on their marketing orientation.
