THE MISMATCH PHENOMENON WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE ROLE OF EDUCATION IN LABOR MARKET: A DEMAND- SIDE ASSESSMENT CONCERNING TURKISH LABOR MARKET

Qualification and skill mismatches, which express the concept of mismatches between the qualifications/skills of the labor force and the qualifications/skills required by employers, is the cause of many problems in the labor market. The perceptions, attitudes and behaviors of employers tried to be determined by using qualitative research method in this study which investigated whether there is a mismatch in Turkish labor market. Within the scope of the research, it is aimed to determine what causes the phenomenon which is defined as “mismatch” in the literature, and what effects on the labor market. Within the scope of the study, the findings of “Mismatch Phenomenon: The Case of Turkish Labor Market” Research conducted by ÇASGEM in companies with 50 or more employees in 21 provinces were evaluated in order to investigate the role of education in the labor market and the existence of mismatch phenomenon in terms of demand- side. The research was conducted with the participation of 100 employers/ employer’s representatives or human resources managers. The results obtained from this study will make a significant contribution to the reconsideration processes of labor and education policies.
