ASSESSMENT OF QUALİTY OF LİFE OF THE ELDERLY PEOPLE BY CİTİES

The research was planned and conducted as a descriptive study in order to review the assessments of the quality of life of the elderly people by cities. The study comprised of total 380 elderly people including 250 elderly individuals enrolled in the Söğütlüçeşme Cottage Hospital in Küçükçekmece, Istanbul and Merkezefendi Cottage Hospital in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul and 130 elderly individuals enrolled in Hakkari State Hospital. Assessments of the quality of life of elderly people were dealt with by nutrition, economic status, physical health, psychological health, social participation, housing and environment. 52.4% of the elderly people included in the research are male, 56.3% are within the age range of 65-71, 48.7% are not literate and monthly income of the family of 41.8% varies between TL 651-1350. A significant difference was found between the elderly people living in Istanbul and Hakkari at the expressions “accessibility to the proper food” (t = 3.35, p <0.01), “exchanging food”(t = 2.40, p <0.05) in consideration of the assessments of the quality of life of the elderly people by cities; and “income sufficiency” (t = 2.15, p <0.05), “income taken away by relatives” (t = 3.70, p <0.01) in consideration of the assessments of the quality of life of the elderly people by economic statuses; and “being in a good mood most of the time” (t = 2.21, p <0.05) in consideration of psychological health.
